There was a Marlin model 30S which was the cheap version with non-walnut pressed checkering stock and plain bead front sight. Same action and barrel as the 336, though.
marketed by montgomery wards as a "glenfield" 30S in the 70's. lower grade wood and finish than a marlin 336. worth about 150$ to a pennsylvania deer hunter tomorrow.
