Is this something new on the way from Marlin?

Edit to delete speculation.
Nomenclature worries me a bit. Will Joe Bambislayer handle the difference between .308 Winchester and .308 Express well?
Will people who bypassed .307 go for .308 Express?

Looks like Hornady and Ruger are really getting close, too.
First the .204, now a proprietary .375.

They also show 9.3 and .450-.400 ammo illustrated with Ruger No 1s, so I figure Ruger must be bringing out guns to give them a market for ammo, there are not enough antiques to warrant Hornady tooling up.

I've already seen this on the Marlinowners site. I'm intrigued, but i'm going to wait and see on this one. I mean, if I want more power than my 30-30, I already have a .308 Win. I'm not sure what a .308 Marlin accomplishes. But I may change my tune after I get more info.

I was kinda hoping for an XLR .375 Winchester w/ LeveRevolution ammo, myself.

Something to fill in the horrifying gap between the pipsqueak .35 Remington and the hammer-o'-Thor .444/45-70 Marlins. *grin*

Mostly interested in .375 because I'm a contrarian, and because I never see them on the pawnshop racks in Central Texas.

A 25-35 (not 25-20) XLR w/ LeveRevolution: now that'd be cool!

308 Marlin Express

I own the 22" barrel version and I can tell you this is a fine rifle. It is very accurate MOA and fun to shoot. I will use it deer hunting this year in Alabama. I will let you know how it goes in the field.

I have several different rounds reloaded and a couple of boxes of the LEverEvolution from Hornady. This is a round for almost anything in North America.

"Why not just create an accurate levergun chambered in .308Win?"

There's one already, it called the Browning BLR. As has been said, why re-invent the wheel?

As much as I love Marlins, and it appears to be a good cartridge, I'm afraid it has a very small niche. Regardless of how good it is, sales will determine it's future.

The Marlin 308 MX is here to stay. Marlin stands by their propriotary calibers.

The 308 is not the same as 308 Win but shoots with nearly identicle trajectory. It uses a new powder that keeps chamber pressure down to safe levels for the Marlin action. BTW the 336 action has been proof tested to 60,000 psi.

There is new 338 MX coming out next year. Don't be so down on them until you have tried them. One member at MO's has taken deer at ranges in excess of 350 yards. with the 308MX. He also took an elk at more than 175 yards. Another used it on an African plains hunt with good success.

The only one I have shot myself is dads 308MX and at 300 yards it is death on pumpkins. Haven't hunted with it myself yet. It maintains more than 1000 pounds of energy at 500 yards. Now that makes it a reasonable long range deer rifle on a legendary platform.
