I have to start out by saying i have no gunsmithing experience. Grandfather jammed his marlin 336 35 rem. what it looked like to me is when he went to reload the base of the round stuck slightly out of the tube which prevented the carrier to move up and feed a round into the chamber. would anyone know why this may happen? i removed the round and it was able to cycle rounds fine. he was using hornady flex tip ammo, i notice they seem to have been loaded into the rifle multiple times, brass was pretty beat up and the tips were almost coming off. Anyone have a similar type of problem?

Yea, it says the connection was re-set, try again. It ususlly comes up on the try again. Searching Google you can come across other pages on the same problem.

Thanks for the response, ill give it a try looks like its the exact article i was looking for. describes the problem im having perfectly.

I own a 336 in .30-30win and have experienced this same problem with the same ammunition. It happens, and there is a fix. If I remember right, the general consensus was the action was not being worked with enough authority. Since then, I have always been very snappy and direct when working the action and I have had no problems. As far as the Hornady tips, I do not keep ammunition in the magazine for long periods of time and have never experienced this.

That is not a "Marlin jam"...the Marlin jam is a problem with the 1894's, not the 336's.

If that 35 is an older rifle, replace the follower if you're gonna shoot the LeveRevolution ammo...the old flat faced followers cause problems (such as the tip getting wedged between the mag tube and follower...this might have been what caused the hang-up)

The newer followers have a concave face so spring tension keeps the tip of the bullet from getting around the follower.

Nobody much has marlin parts in stock right now (the company moved from New Haven, CT to Ilion, NY and things haven't quite gotten straightened out yet)

But here is what you need (not in stock)... https://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/default.aspx?productNumber=428949

The photo in the discussions (follow the links) are of the modern model 1894 (the modern pistol-caliber carbine based scaling down the 336 action, not the rifle-caliber 336 or the original 1894). Out of curiosity I checked my 336 and it did not match the photos.

Problems with the 336 follower are usually a very badly worn or bent follower. Most owners of 336s will not encounter this problem.
