OK, I'm a flake I know, but I have FINALLY settled on a rifle, a Marlin 336A in .30-30. It's inexpensive, rugged, ammo is plentiful & since it will only be for defense, has plenty of 'ummph', won't scare the neighbours etc. I know it will overpenetrate, but I have a Glock23 for in house, I just want a simple, durable rifle as well. I chose the A model out of vanity, I like the forearm cap as opposed to the band ><

My only problem is...I can't seem to find one! They are still in production right?

They are still in production. I would look for A nice older used rifle made before Remmington got hold of Marlin. Lots of great used Marlins out there.

Good choice and a great gun. What everyone else said about buying used. Best value and no cross bolt safety.
