Marlin 336w question.

    Ok, one of my best friends owns a Marlin 336w, and wants to know what the best condition to store it in is.

    Keep in mind, it's stored unloaded.

    Now, I say it's best to keep the hammer at the half-cock notch (reduces tension on both mainspring and firing pin spring, )

    His older brother says "cocked and locked" or "hammer down"

    So, who's right?

    No BS, just the facts, as the mechanics of the rifle support them,

    Springs do not wear out from remaining compressed,they wear out from being cycled too many times.Either method of storage is fine.
