I decided to see if I could run cast bullets in my Marlin 336 35 Remington. In my eyes, one of the potential benefits of the 35Rem is the ability to share bullets with my 357 Mags... Of concern was the Microgroove barrel, and all of the dire things that I've read concerning the incompatibility between the MG barrel and lead bullets.

I tried a preliminary load of 35gr of Reloader 10x under .358 Beartooth 180gr FN-GC, using Remington cases and Winchester primers. Accuracy at 25 yards was one raggedy hole (it's been pouring rain for two days and I was forced to use an indoor range to try this). Not that anything at 25 yards means much, but I was pleased to note that at least they were all pretty much heading the in same direction. I couldn't set up the chrono, but based upon past experiences I figure that this load is stepping out at a wee bit over 2000fps.

Most importantly, after five rounds I had absolutely no leading whatsoever in the barrel. Looks like this is going to be worth pursuing further; should be fun.... :D

180's sound a little lite for a 35 rem but it looks like they get the job done.
More than one person has gotten good accuracy out of micro groove bbl's including Brian Pierce (handloader/rifle mag). You'll have to let us know how things work out at 100 yds!

I have been thinking of exactly the same thing. I just haven't bought the mold yet. I will cast my own. I want to also try this bullet in a .357 1894C marlin. a little heavy But with light loads iI think it will be fine.
