I have a Marlin 39A that I inherited from my father and I took it to the range today to give it a whirl. This is second time that I've had a range session with this particular gun and the first session I had no issues. Today however was a different story. On every round I had to re-cock the hammer before the gun would fire. I discovered that the if I manually pushed the firing pin back in toward the muzzle, the gun would fire on the first trigger pull. I've never attempted to disassemble a lever action gun so I'm a little skeptical about attempting anything, but I found a blueprint and I think I can handle breaking it down. I'm kinda guessing that the firing pin channel is somehow extremely dirty and that is keeping the firing pin from moving freely enough. What do you think? Any help is appreciated.
