Ok, I know that these riffles are completely different animals, but I've narrowed my search for a .22 down to these two models. Here's the deal, I can only afford one and probability says that I won't be getting another for at least a couple of years. I was completely set on the lever action until I checked out the bolt action mag. It was sweeeeeeeet, and the stainless anti-rust feature is something to be desired. This gun would be used for target plinking with some varmit hunts scattered here and there. I'd say that most shots would be in the 50-60 yd. range with some reaching out to 100-120 yds. I'm really wrestling with this one. Suggestions are welcome. (Note: I'm not interested in a .17)

Thanks

I don't own the bolt action but my vote goes to the 39A. I own one and a 1897CL and they are both my favorites to shoot. Honest walnut and forged, machined steel. Get one before they realize that guns aren't made that way anymore.

I love the 39, have one from the early 50s (55) and it is a wonderful rifle. I have a receiver sight on it. Enough said about that, but for longer range accurcy I'll take a good bolt with a good scope any day. I have about a dozen 22s in all types of actions and shoot all of them and it is pure enjoyment.

If you plan to shoot a lot I would buy the 39. The 22mag can get very expensive if you shoot often. With the expensive mag ammo you are likely not to shoot as much.

Oh yeah , I also own a 39! I would buy the 22lr first and get the 22 mag later.
