I have a Marlin Golden 39A. It has the inscription "Original Golden 39A" on the left side of the BBL but does not have the gold trigger common on the 39A today. Can anyone tell if anything is special about this gun? It is NIB and never fired according to my friend who is disposing of his late father in law's collection. Stock and metal appear perfect. SN is 1826xxxx which seems rather high.

It's a regular production 39A made in 1982. During this period they used that version of the name and no gold trigger. To get the year of manufacture, subtract the first two digits of the SN from 100. Earlier verions had a letter prefix that changed yearly (although they did repeat the alphabet when they ran out of letters.)

It is special, it's a 39A. Welcome to the club.

John
