Does anyone know if the 39D was manufactured in stainless or nickel finish? I know everything else about my rifle but was wondering if the finish was original.

39D? That's not a common variant.

I'm guessing that maybe it was.

I'm interested.

Have you tried over at the Marlin 39 Club thread?

The Marlin 39D was made in 1971-73.
Pretty much a 39A Mountie with a pistol grip stock.

It would have been blue when it left the factory as Marlin didn't start producing any stainless firearms until fairly recently.

I bet someone had it refinished with hard chrome or electroless nickle at some point.

The 39-A Mountie had a 24" barrel, straight stock, and slender forearm and was sold from 1953 to 1972.

The 39-M Mountie is the 20" carbine made more recently.

The 39-D Mountie was a carbine with a 39-A stock, and I would have been more correct to have said 39-M with an A stock.

Now, you got me confused!

The 24" barrel was also called a Mountie?

I always thought "Mountie" meant "carbine".

well if it isn't factory the finish was beautifully done. All the tool marks and lettering is extremely clear. I guess ill be contacting Marlin. Ill try to put pics up soon. Let me just add this gun is one heck of a shooter. It also has a lot of sentimental value for me, so i break it out once or twice a month to put some rounds down range.
