I've been struggling for a while with my Marlin 60 and its failures to feed. I bought the gun in a pawn shop a year ago. It was rusty on the outside and looked like it hadn't been shot on the inside. I've since put some 6,000-8,000 rounds through it. The vast majority of those were its favorite Remington Golden Bullets. Accurate and reliable.

The last month or two, though, it's been jamming with increasing regularity. The cartridge jams nose up on the feed ramp with an indentation in the case from the bolt slamming into its side. I figured the lifter spring was weak and not lifting the cartridge fast enough in front of the bolt. I replaced the spring. No joy. I thought that maybe the crud build-up that I neglected during my regular brake cleaner wash-down was slowing the bolt. That would prevent the bolt from getting all the way behind the cartridge and force the cartridge up the feed ramp by friction. Then, I thought, it would hang up because the bolt wasn't all the way behind it. I cleaned the action to perfection. The bolt does seem to move faster now. Now instead of denting the case, it punctures it. :banghead:I stuck some Federal bulk ammo in it last week and it was marginally better, but not perfect.

Have you seen this? How do I fix it?

Check out the feed throat, they are made of pot metal and will wear out. Numrich has replacements.

Take pics, take notes, and break the whole thing down in a spring-capturing cardboard box until you can split that two-piece feed carrier thing apart and check for crud that spraydowns won't clear out.

As noted above--look for wear. The one I worked on (repeatedly broke hammers) was worn but still worked OK. Could see how there would be a point of no return. The back end of the rim slots is critical.

I know this thread was last posted on forever ago but im curious to know if you got it fixed. I also have a marlin 60 thats doing the same thing. Thats how i found this thread. i really wanna get mine working again. Thanks

I have repaired several of these guns due to the same problem. In most cases the feed ramp is the culprit. The bottom of the silver rampp also acts as a lifter stop and governs how high the lifter/carrier brings the cart in alignment with the chamber. After much use, the lifter will wear a notch in the bottom of the ramp/stop and lift the cart too high for proper alingment. Another cause is the 2pc ramp will seperate causing the cart to be tilted to the side and catch on the chamber mouth. The old style ramp is no longer available. The new one comes with a new lifter and spring. If you have the old style bolt, you will be informed that you have to purchase the new style bolt to go with the new ramp. I have retained the org bolt by grinding the sq top side of the new ramp at an angle to mate with the old bolt style. Saves the customer the price of a new bolt.
