So we had a Range Safety Officer (RSO) class today and divided the class in half with one half role playing the fyre-arms enthusiast who has a problem and the other playing the RSO.

One student who played the fyre-arms enthusiast jammed a Marlin 1895 for real. Almost fully opened, the lever couldn't be worked back or forth and there was a dummy cartridge that was jammed in it. I pulled it out of service and handed them a Mossberg lever action; which he promptly jammed too. I then gave him a bolt action without a magazine.

Anyway, I cleared the Mossberg with a ground down brass rod and got it working. The Marlin had to be disassembled and it was found that the ejector was bent back 30 degrees. This prevented the bolt from moving forward. Similarly because of the bend, the cartridge could not be pulled further to the rear as it would strike the ejector. The bent ejector was placed in a vice and flattened, but it's going to have to be annealed to relieve the stress from all the bending it underwent.

I wouldn't waste any time stress relieving the ejector, when a phone call to Marlin/Remington gets you a new one for free, $13 + shipping gets you one from Midway/Brownells/Etc, and $35 + S&H gets you a WWG version which sure won't ever bend on you ever again.
