I picked up a old marlin 60 (SN 21xxxxx - so i'm guessing from 79) and it constantly fails to feed properly. I've cleaned it and so on yet just about everytime i put a round through the rifle the round jams between the slide and the chamber, with such force as to occasionally bend the round.

i've heard that this is a common issue with old marlin's... i am curious what i can do to fix the issue, because believe it or not when the rifle fires like it should for sometime as many as three rounds its a blast to shoot.

Is it the feed throat that needs replacing? and if so how difficult a job is that to do? and what style feed throat do i need to get, old or new? any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

My m60 started doing the same thing years ago. It is an 84ish model. It only needed the shell lifter replaced.

model 60 woes

Whe I get a Model 60 in for feed problems I first give it a thorough cleaning. Than I stone the bolt face, the ectractors' sharp edges, the cartridge guide and make sure the chamber has not been dimpled by repeated impacts of the firing pin, If so i remove the dimple and any burrs at the chambers entrance. Also, replacing the bolt spring will make it more reliable.

My Marlin 60 suffered too much wear and tear, or abuse by previous owners. About every other round (1/2) misfired after I bought it-whether Blazer,
basic CCI, Rem. "Thunderslug", Win. ammo. The very experienced gun smith's installation of a few parts made little difference.

It then misfed about every third round (1/3) and has stood in "lock down" isolation in a closet for over a year.
It's not fit to socialize with the other prisoners.
I should have spent the original money+ repair costs on a brand-new model, for about the same total cost.

But low and behold, my new bolt-action Romanian M-69 .22 Trainer is both fun, accurate ($100) and meets my requirement to be in a military style, such that I totally forgot about the forlorn, forsaken, forbidden Marlin. The sights are better than on my Yugo Mauser, which is also no longer used.

well i scammed the conversion kit, mainly because there was some serious heavy visible wear on the marlin 60 feed throat, aside from some difficulty getting the assembly back together everything went fine, installed the conversion kit replace the arm, spring and the 'thoat'.

Now my problem is that the new throat is only beveled on one side where as the old throat was beveled on both sides. So i am unable to get the assembly to seat properly in the bolt/slide (whatever marlin calls it) because slide is designed to fit the feed throat that is beveled on both sides.

So my question this time is what are my options? was i sent the wrong part? or does no one have any clue what i am talking about... i can (and will) post pictures when i get the chance, spent the afternoon trying to get this done so i could take it shooting tomorrow but looks like i'm going to have to wait a while....

im getting pretty frustrated with this rifle, i spent 100$ on the damn thing so i could have a easy cheap 'plinker', now i've sunk another 25 into it on the feed throat conversion, and do not want to spend another 20-30$ for a new slide... it may be cheaper to just sell the damn thing for 100 and spend 200 on a ruger 22 or some other 22 style rifle, the Romanian M-69 .22 Trainer sounds interesting...
