Marlin 49DL - issues

Just picked up an old Marlin 49DL .22 for cheap and it has an irritating problem. For those not familiar, it's basically a Marlin 60, but a tad older.

I've cleaned it, oiled it, and it still won't shoot right. If it fires a round (which it usually takes two hammer strikes to do it) the bolt won't go back all the way in the receiver, and because of this it wont eject the case. The bolt feels tight inside the receiver in spite of the cleaning and the oil.

What is going on? How do I fix it? Has anyone had similar problems with the Marlin 49 or the Marlin 60?

Sounds like maybe the recoil buffer has deteriorated and is gumming up the works. Not the only thing it could be, but on a rifle that old it would be the first thing I checked. Even if your buffer is intact, it wouldn't take much to slow down the firing pin enough to cause light strikes.
