Hello all.

MY older brother is looking for a .17HMR rifle and is torn between these two models. They are both blued heavy barreled .17HMR rifles.

I don't know anything about Marlin's .17HMR bolt action rifles. I personally own a Savage 93FVSS .22WMR rifle and absolutely love it!!! It's a real accurate rifle.

I own a Marlin 60 and while it is an accurate rifle, I do think it's a cheap rifle. I know Savage has a great reputation for their bolt action rifles and their accuracy.

Can anyone give me a quick comparison as it looks like the two rifles are similar in price.

Thanks.

I have a Marlin and love it. Very accurate at 100 yards. I went with it because I also have a Marlin 22 mag and the magazines will interchange.

Can not comment on the Savage, never had one.

As far as accuracy, both are great. One is a standard barrel and the other is a bull barrel(HMR). The mag is about 20 years old and is still a great gun. But I tend to go to the HMR more right now because it is newer, only about a year old. I would feel confident with grabbing either and hitting what I was shooting at.

I've got a 917V and it shoots very well. That said, it took bedding and a new trigger to get there. Out of the box it was very inconsistent. Bedding helped a lot and the new trigger made it much easier to shoot well. If I was going to compare the older t900 triggered marlin to an accutrigger Savage, I'd take the Savage just to save the cost of replacing the trigger. Haven't felt the new Marlin triggers so I'm not sure with them. Either rifle should shoot well, it just depends on what trigger you're buying.
