I have a Marlin 981t rifle that I love but I do not hear anything about here or on Rimfire Central.

For those who don't know, it is a tube-fed bolt action .22lr rifle with a synthetic stock. Its drilled and tapped and it has a simple open iron sight.

The cool thing is that as a tube-fed boltie, it handles shorts and longs. It is accurate enough for plinking and small game hunting and I love the way it handles and points.

Why don't I hear anything about these rifles? I have owned 2 10/22 rifles and this one is head and shoulders above it. What do other shooters think of it?

I have one and like it a lot. I am going to dump the synthetic stock for a wooden one from the Marlin websight. I've tuned the trigger and it is pretty good at this point...still a little work left.

I have a Simmons ATV on it and the overall package does pretty good. I hope that the wood stock and floating the barrel will help tighten up the groups.

There is some 981T talk over at RFC. I'll talk to you over there anytime!

By coincidence a friend bought one and we took it shooting today for the first time.

He managed to fire 3 rounds. It failed to eject on all 3. I then pulled the bolt and inspected it and noticed the "ejector" (a small spring) was bent and was in the way of the bolt's travel. Needless to say that gun was done for the day... :( And he was so excited, it was his first gun!

I let him shoot the crap out of my SKS and Glock to make up for it and advised him how to get it repaired posthaste (he may be out of luck as he bought it at ... GASP.... Walmart :( )

I bought one as a "loaner" .22 for my girlfriend and friends to shoot when they come with me, and have been impressed with its accuracy. No scope on it for me though, just a Williams rear peep sight.

I bought one of these for the girlfriend. My requirments at the time were that it had to be a bolt action and that it had to have a tube magazine. Reason being that I wanted her to learn with a bolt and be able to shoot 22 shorts in it also. My only real complaint would be the sights. I wish they were more sturdy. Other than that I think it is a great rifle. She wishes it had a wooden stock. I may look into a wooden stock from marlins store soon. Anyone know which one to buy?
