Marlin 99-M1

These are the model 60s made to look like an M1 carbine - got one in trade not thinking much of it, but turns out I really like this thing (but haven't shot it yet). Short, handy, pointable, fully adjustable rear.

The weird thing is that it's not found in Fjestad's blue book. There's on on gunbroker for $300 buy it now, but it's in excellent condition, whereas mine is only fair-good - anyone have a clue on the approx. value of these? I got into it pretty cheaply (under $90). Can't wait to shoot it.

I have one of these Marlins, bought it from a guy for $60 about 20 years ago when I was a teenager. You are right they are unique and kind of rare. I doubt overly valuable but maybe in the eyes of the beholder. Its a great shooter, I bet you will like it.

the 99's were actually precursors to the mod 60; a nice 99m1 , very nice , can pull 300 bucks, especially if it has the origional rear sight; those can go for 60 bucks or more alone. some of the earliest 99's had italian made sling swivels, lots of steel parts, black walnut wood, white line spacers, you name it.
Even a so so model of a 99m1 will do 150 easy. good pickup on your part, especially if it has the origional rear sight...

I had one of them years ago. It had belonged to my ex-wife's late father, so when we split up, she wanted it.

Good little gun as I remember. Everything you said...short, light, easy to carry. I didn't hunt with it, but it was a fun plinker.

I can see why the rear sight would be easy to lose. IIRC it was held on by a set screw and would slide back and forth on the dovetail. If you mounted a tip off scope, especially the little "22" scopes that were popular then it could get in the way. I'll bet a lot of people took them off for that reason.
