Marlin Camp 9 Carbine

I just came across a Marlin Camp 9 carbine when I was on my way to get the Lee Enfield #4Mk1 rifle at Big 5 and it kind of alter my plan. Anyway, I just have some question about this Marlin camp carbine. First, while Marlin discontinue this carbine? Is there something wrong with the carbine? lack of sale ? I have heard that only part that need frequent replacement is the recoil buffer (about $6.95 from Gun parts) .I like the carbine size gun for weekend plinking and indoor target shooting and the 9 mm is plentiful and affordable.

the camps were discontinued for PC reasons.

they didn't fit into Marlin's 'sporting firearms' image.

Yes, get the recoil buffer, and also observe while a friend shoots. Pay attention to the action as it cycles. If you can see the last vestiges of combustion in the chamber, upgrade to a 16 or 21 lb wolff spring. (If you have a .45, skip this step and go straight for the 21 pounder, you'll be glad you did. It reduces blowback schmutz to almost nothing)

Being a straight blowback design, there's no locking mechanism on the action, the only thing keeping it shut is the mass of the bolt and the power of the recoil spring.
