Was given my grandfather's old Marlin .30-30 yesterday by my grandmother. My grandfather died a decade or so ago but she kept a lot of his things for sentimental reasons. He had promised this rifle to me, though, and she was getting rid of a lot of things, so she went ahead and gave it to me.

Being a tactical poser, I am not all that familiar with lever-action firearms.;)

I've hunted and hunted online but decided that it would be a whole lot easier for someone to just tell me what it is rather than me looking too hard.

Lever-action .30-30, wood furniture (walnut?), worn blueing, not a high-polished finish but not matte, serial number is a little odd to me...it's an odd-looking "n"-shaped thing followed by 5704. The only "date of manufacture" site that I could find for the Marlins wouldn't accept the "n" thing and showed, when I only entered "5704", that the date of manufacture was 1883. The .30-30 was introduced after that time, so that can't be the date of manufacture.

Any assistance? Wildalaska? Anyone?

You do realize now that you've iD'ed it, you owe us pictures and details, right? Gotta add to the collective knowledge and all... :D
