OK, been reading several post recently about the virtues of the 1984c Marlin lever action in . 357.

So how does the .44 mag lever action compare? HOw do you like it, as well?

How is the recoil, comparable to a 30-30? what is the maximum EFFECTIVE range I am looking at with .44 mags or .44 specials in the lever rifle?

Appreciate all you comments, expereinces, and photos of the .44 mag Marlin lever action.

The Marlin 1894 pattern rifles are excellent in both .357 and .44 mag. You get a little more recoil in the .44, but it's quite manageable (nothing at all like a .44 mag out of a handgun). Obviously, it shoots a heavier bullet that hits a little harder and makes a bigger hole than the .357.

I prefer the .44, myself. Since it loses nothing to the .357 in terms of reliability, capacity and accuracy, and hits harder, it's an easy choice.

I'd say my Marlin 44 mag with 240 grain factory loads recoils about the same as my Winny 30-30. The Specials barely kick at all. My max range is about 100 yards with issued sights.
