Ok, I bought this SSK in 98, brand new, only my grubby paws have been on this little pretty thing. BUT... I have had NOTHING but misfeeds, stovepipes, jams, and all the wonderful assorted colorful language that goes with this since the day this rifle came out of the box. Yep, day one. I was initially disgusted, cleaned it and let the puppy gather dust in my closet for some years, and took it out again to go plinking. Again, same problem, but noted this time, it didn't matter WHAT ammo I fed it, Super X, CCI, Fed, you name it, I've tried it. All with the same stovepipes, failure to eject, and so on. I cleaned it yet once more and let her sit for another few years, (me being the dummy, I should have sent it back for warranty repairs...like I said, I'm a dummy) and took her out again for my son's birthday bash we planned at a local range. I took her out, cleaned this puppy six ways to Sunday, lightly oiled her up and off we went.

I won't repeat it...yes, it's STILL doing it. I have been through the threads here on the eject spring, the throat feed, and a partridge in a pear tree...I have looked hard, and did find my recoil spring and guide rod a little bent up, ordered some new ones, installed them last night, and still....first feed manually, stovepiped the first round, and I removed that jam, and started over, same problem. With one difference I have noticed since I have been lurking here, I did notice the bullet did not feed very well from the tubular magazine, and the extractors, sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. When the extractors worked, it wouldn't spit the round out, it held onto it. Otherwise when one round was on its way out, the other on its way in from the magazine, and the two clashed and collided and stovepiped.

Help please...I am sure I could still send this to Marlin, and yes, they would probably fix it for a nice nominal fee, as well as my local gunsmith, but the vast majority of the smiths here seem to get a snicker out of me bring my M60 SSK in to be repaired. After three attempts, I gave up. Sorry, I like the 22LR, they're fun, and doesn't break the bank when I want to go plinking all day long. I digress, my apologies, the point being is that I can repair this little rifle, I would like to know how, and have the satisfaction of having done the repairs myself. I am more than sure I am overlooking something, or updated parts has happened to fix this little girl. Either way, folks, can ya lend a hand to help me figure this one out?

All the best to ye!
Thanks in advance!

I wish I had an answer for you, I made the post about my Marlin 70PSS that suddenly developed a failure to fire. Like you, I cleaned it and inspected it and can find nothing worng, but it still fails to fire. Good luck to us both. Jim

The M60 is a perfectly servicable rimfire. I would not snicker at you if you were to bring it to me.

My first reaction to this is to tell you send it to Marlin anyway. That way, even for a fee, they will from then on have to stand behind their services.

That being said the culprit to this problem almost always stems from this part.

If you feel comfortable replacing it yourself than that is a pretty inexpensive thing to try.

Lotta times the ejector, lifter , and other springs get knocked off their perches, find another trigger group to compare your's to.
If it has always had problems it wouldn't be the feed throat.

I would have to second the feed throat replacement. Or look at the tube mag and make sure it's not got any dimples in it near the feed throat. If it is bent or flattened alittle near the feed throat that can cause feeding problems as well but most likely is the feed throat itself.
