Took it out today for the first time. Handloads of 30 gr. W748 under Sierra 170 gr Flat SP gave very good results. Woo Hoo!

Nope that didn't work either. No (alpha prefix). Eight digits in the number.
I'm guessing it's in the 2000's (year wise). But the receiver is drilled and tapped on the side as well as the top. Stock sights seem to be working well.

i think that it is because they were made after 1990 (wag)

If they number the 30AWs the same as the 336s (same rifle basically) the manufacture date can be determined by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 100. So 100 - 3 = 1997.
