I just purchased a used. 1989, mod 60. It was supposed to have been from an estate and unfired. I believe it was fired, but from the looks not much. Problem is that the bolt is tight and won't go closed all the way after firing a round. I tried some clp on the parts but even sliding by hand it doesn't feel smooth. Any advice on what to do. I put about 100 rds thru it so far, and about half needed the bolt assisted closed.

I took it apart to clean it and now I can't get the bolt to slide back all the way. I won't go back far enough to chamber a round. With just the two springs and the rod with the bolt in the rifle, it will not slide back all the way, I caanot see what the heck could be stopping it. I have tried every combination with the springs, and half way is all ti will do, Feels like it is bottoming out.

Edit: For the record. The rifle is a 1989 mod 60. It has two recoil springs with the guide rod. I had the rod in backwards, (although I was sure it came out the other way). Works like a champ.

If I remember correct, your model 60 is only supposed to have 1 recoil spring for the guide rod. The flared or nipple portion of the guide rod goes into the hole at the top of the receiver. For tons of model 60 info try rimfirecentral.com, look at the stickies for the model 60.

Your right TPD211, one spring on the guide rod and one in the bolt. Thanks for the info, I'll check it out.

If the gun was left with the bolt cocked for a number of years, it may have weakened the recoil spring. I would clean the gun thoroughly and replace the springs.

Leaving it cocked wound not do any damage, springs fail from fatigue, cycling it. But i agree, get new springs for it. My Marlin had a bent spring went I got it, a failed reassembly attempt I believe.
