I just inherited a Marlin model 43 .12 gage pump action shotgun, as well as a Remington 30.06. I'm told both are at least 70 years old, but I have no idea how to verify their age.

Both guns were shipped in a transit case. The Marlin shotgun suffered some damage to the butt stock in transit. 5 small pieces of the butt were chipped off around the crown where it connects to the gun itself. All 5 pieces were in the transit case and connect together like a jigsaw puzzle perfectly. So I'm assuming they can be re-attached (glued?) fairly easily. Is this something I should attemt to do myself? Or is this something I need to take to a gunsmith to be done professionally? I assume keeping the original butt would be a good idea to help retain it's value. Does this make sense?

I know absolutely NOTHING about these weapons. But since I now own them, I would like to make sure I'm doing what I can to ensure they're maintained and preserved appropriately.

Lastly, can someone tell me where can I find instructions on how to operate, clean, and maintain these weapons?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Rick

Contact Marlin and Remington, they will get you instructions. You might find what you need on their web sites.
