hello folks. i was given a model 60 buy my best friends and it is damaged. they said "keep it, if you can fix it". Well i was looking for parts and it is hard finding "old" model 60 parts. the main problem with it is that the action assembly is destroyed. my friends tried cleening it and upon opening them the springs launched parts everywhere; parts never to be seen again:( i was wondering what parts of the "new" model fit and work with the old one. i also wanted to know if the entire "new" model action assembly is compatible with the "old" model. are the bolt and extractor assembly interchangeable as well? thanks for he help.

The new models are nearly identical to the old models with a few exceptions that cause major problems. Mainly the outside frame of the action is thinner on the new models. I bought an action from Numrich but I got my old one working before I ever had to put the other one in. I did try it and I don't remember if it worked in my old 60 or my new 60 to be honest. But they rarely ever have the complete actions for sale anyway. I paid about $40 I think it was for that action. I still have it but I have a 60 that's been around a very long time and has had a lot of ammo through it.

i heard folk say that the action assemblies and firing pins are intergangeable. the action assembly willl need new inletting but it would work with an old model.

here are the pictures of the marlin. i hope they have enough detail for identifying purposes.

I heard they would interchange too. They won't. I tried it. There are several differences that aren't really apparent unless you look close. But they are there.

If I remember either the old ones will work in the new guns or the new ones will work in the old guns but the opposite way (of whichever way works) won't work. I'd have to get both out and do the whole routine again. It's been several years since I did this. I just know that one way doesn't work. It may be fixed by inletting. I think one of the main problems was that the old models had wider side frames than the newer ones. But that would mean a new rifle could be made to work with an old action because the old one is definitely wider.

There are sites that tell you exactly how to put the action back together. If you still have all the parts you might be able to fix what you have. At the least you would only have to buy the parts that are missing.

There's a good video series on the disassembly and reassembly of the action on YouTube. Here's the link to the first one. You should be able to find the rest from this link. Or you could just take what you have to a gunsmith. I'd bet they have pretty much all worked on the 60 and taken the action apart and put it back together many times. They might even have the parts you could have missing. Anyway here's that link:

thanks a bunch Cee Zee. Does anyone know if the "old" style bolt will work in the "new" style? will the firingpins interchange too?

Numrich lists a lot of parts for the Marlin/Glenfield model 60 and has a schematic as well so you may be able to tell what parts you need to get it back together again. They have parts listed for both old and new models so you should be able to tell from part numbers what parts interchange.
