I have a Marlin 30AS in .30-30 and am looking into reloading for it. I was curious if using Lead rounds is ok with teh Micro-Groove barrel? I have been using jacketed stuff that I picked up at Wally World or the local sporting goods store.

I have had modest success with lead bullets in my micro groove Marlin 336, and somewhat better with an old 1893. On the Marlin owners forum are a number of very knowledgeable shooters, they or the guys at "Cast Boolits" can help you get that gun shooting much better than I.

y0u can, but results vary. I would go over to marlin owners.com, and ask about specific bullets and loads and such, the microgrooving can at times seem to be a bit slippery with lead or cast bullets.

I have had good results with a marlin 1894C in 357, but it took a lot of experimenting and I never found a commercially cast bullet that worked worth a damn. I cast most of my own and have found that one of mine works very well. I also cast for a Marlin in 32 Winchester Special that works well, but it is very picky. My only 30-30 is a Savage 99 from 1936 and it will shoot my cast 170 gr. bullets quite well.
Micro-groove barrels are ok, but can be difficult with cast bullets. My 444 is still in the developing stages for shooting cast and I've been working with it off and on for 5 years.
