New member here, and posting in this forum for a specific reason.
Yesterday, I went looking online for a Marlin bolt gun, trigger-specific tutorial, and this is where I found what I was looking for.

Anyway, My Marlin model 782 was purchased new by Me when I was in My early 20’s, and Gerry Ford was at the helm on Pennsylvania Ave. in DC.
The trigger originally scaled around 11 lbs WOP out of the box, and after some playing around with it, I reduced it to 7 lbs WOP.
It has remained at 7 lbs for nearly 40 years, but more recently, that heavy trigger felt ridiculous as compared to My new Remington 504 bolt gun.
I had taken both those guns to the range to sight in the new scopes on both rifles. The Marlin had a Bushnell large objective 4X scope on it for over 30 years, and because My eyes are ancient, I wanted a variable power optic instead.
Welp, sitting on the shelf for about 35 years I owned a new in the box Simmons Deerfield 3X9 scope , which has superb optical clarity, and it’s quite compact for a variable. Onto the Marlin she went, along with a new set of Redfield rimfire rings, also sitting around since Ronnie ran the White House.
There seems to be a pattern here, eh?
Anyhoo, My Mrs recently bought Me a brand new Remington 504 and a new Leupold 2x7 rimfire scope for My ancient aged birthday….what a great girl, huh?
Hence, both guns needed sighting in at the range.
Yesterday, I found Michaelmcgo’s excellent post circa 2007, along with great, detailed images to assist with trigger tuning.
About the only deviation from the tutorial was that instead of a bead to shim the sear spring, I clipped a couple threads off a 4-40 bolt, and used that for the shim.
I went ahead and ceramic stoned the sear and trigger engagement surfaces, and reassembled the unit using a dab of Gunslick grease, here and there.
Results are 1.5 lbs WOP, reliably registering, using My RCBS military trigger pull gauge.
Tell ya what…. I never thought I’d ever have such a sweet trigger pull on My old Marlin.
