Finally got to take a look at one at Gander a couple days ago. I've been cruising the market a bit for a relatively inexpensive .30-06 and had heard very nice things about the XL7, including reports of exceptional accuracy. The gun seems to be built at a very good quality level given its price (<$320 at GM)....slightly better than the Mossberg ATR and Savage 111/Stevens 200, and light years better than the Remington 770. The action seemed very nice as well.

Anyone here have a chance to shoot one? How does it run?

Cheap crap. Chinsey low quality crap. They make Stevens 200 rifles look good. Triggers are nasty the actions are gritty, the stocks are like what you might find in a Happy Meal... The balance is just wrong. The feel is hollow. It might as well been made by Crossman or Daisy. This is easily the worst rifle to come out in a long time... Truly revolting. It actually makes a Mossberg ATR look good. Go ahead and top it off with a Barska scope. When it breaks you can use it as a jack handle.
Yet thanks to the greatly lowered expectations of shooters who buy from Wal-Mart... these POS's are being well received. Cheap Crap Sells... and those that buy try to convince themselves they got something better than what they paid for it.
You want a real good cheap rifle? Buy a Mosin.

Thank you, George Hill.. You just described to me EXACTLY what I wanted in my new rifle..

Upon suggestion by another member here, I think I'll pick up my xl-7 to be my new dirt rifle.

i like them

I have had to opportunity to fire two, a 30-06 and a 270 and both were relatively poory stocked, as to be expected, barrels were floated, but no bedding present, again to be expected, but both's accutrigger'esk trigger were decent and more than adequate for hunting purposes, both suprisingly enough shot well undr 1", the 270 was slighty more accurate. they are not precision target rifles, but again considering the price and the accuracy, i beleive they would be fine entry level rifels or deer slayers, and givven their potential I am quite centrain a well trained rifleman could make them sing on the firing line.

head and shoulders above most of the competition at the price point. I very humle opinion is that they re fine firearms period. the price only makes them better.

Oh My God!!! Couple of weeks ago I walked into my local gun store, (as the local Walmart was out of the usual POS rifles I dream about daily:neener:) and spotted a Marlin XL7 rifle on the rack. (.270 Win) I looked it over and ended up purchasing two of them. (Read my lips; that's TWO of them!) Both triggers are fantastic and the actions are silky smooth. I topped them off with Sightron 3x9 scopes and couldn't be happier. Marlin got it right with this rifle. I have owned Remington, Kimber, Winchester, various Marlin lever guns and Savage rifles and I wouldn't trade these two Marlins for any of them. With the economy such as it is I applaud ANY rifle manufacturer that can turn out an accurate rifle at just over $300 dollars. My Remington stainless mountain rifle and Remington 700 BDL won't shoot as well as these Marlins. Should I hang my head in shame because someone wants to look down their nose at me for being frugal and a smart consumer? Hell no! I carry my Marlins with pride and anyone who wants to go spend their hard earned money on a "better" rifle can feel free to do so. I hope these Marlins don't get too popular soon as I would like to pick up a couple more of these
" Chinsey crappy rifles" before the price goes up...

I don't know about cheap crap, I think the bbls are made by either t/c or green mountain, I think the triggers are timney designs, I like the bolt way better than on those others. I have not yet heard one dude, who owns one, who not only says they don't like it, but it doesn't shoot somewhere very near moa.
for a hunting rifle you won't mind beating up, this is what you want, in my opinion. And that's right, the xs's are coming out any time, short actions , all based on the 308. if they do this in a 260 or even a 762x39, I will just die!!!!
