Marty Daniel and ATF

Living in the DFW area, I would put the speed limit at 25 mph and that is more than the average person here, that lacks basic discipline could handle.
Given the maturity of the bulk of the drivers here, 5mph and mandatory rubber baby bumpers, since easily 80% are paying less than 50% attention.
Problem with that is the ±5 million goobers around here would ignore those laws the same as they ignore all the rest. To see any effect, we'd likely need around 50K traffic-specific LEO . . .

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

Guns are obviously not the only thing they regulate, although here that might be the only thing we care about. Shutting them down would probably not be a good idea.
The title is a legacy of when they were a tax bureau of the IRS.
They currently only regulate Firearms and Explosives.

The point above, that somebody has to interpret the gibberish spewed out by past Congresses, and define the "go" and "no go." A major issue is not that the agency exists, it's that it's not held to answer for its transgressions and trespasses.
And, they are a convenient scapegoat for legislative incompetence.

And another example of Donald Trumps incompetence.
At any point in his Presidency, Trump could have appointed an ATF Director who could have cleaned up the agency. Who did he put forth? Chick Canterbury, an anti gun advocate.

Ouch!

Would it have been better if he answered, “yes”?

I doubt it. It was not as though his answer would determine the ATF’s future. Nobody would say, “well the guy from Ruger wants to abolish the ATF so let’s get rid of it.” If I’ve learned anything over the past 5 years, it’s that congressional testimony is just theatrics. For those testifying, the best option is to keep a low profile by not saying what your opponents want you to say because your opponents will undoubtedly have a follow-up question or response pre-planned.

I don't know how many of you have survived a qualification board or inspection, but you answer as short, consise and nonemotional as possible. Never volunteer anything extra, once you do the game is to pull the string until your undone. They called them there to use the authority of congress to pick a fight. Leaving those meetings with minimum damage is a best case senerio....

You deserve Biden I hope your happy with your choice. Any chump can say they would do better, they did it trumps entire term, look how much better off we are with those ideologies....

Many industries have federal agency watchdogs (such as the FDA, FCC, ICC, FAA, USDA, and on and on). All these industries have gotten used to dealing with the regulatory universe, and they have internal staff whose job it is to interface with the government. In some ways, this relationship is actually protective of the industry. (It takes the heat off the industry, which would result if it was totally unregulated.) Why should the gun industry be any different as regards the ATF? (Remember that we're talking about the big players, and not the small-time guys like individual FFL dealers.)

Because when was the last time you saw the FDA, FCC, ICC, FAA or USDA infringe upon your rights? Most of those are governing privileges.

I don't think the BATFE should be abolished. I think the "F" should be removed.

The question asked was really just a set up for a bad answer. The question was not asked out of a legitimate concern about the CEO's opinion. It was asked so that if he said "yes, it should be abolished", he could be characterized as a rogue gun profiteer who has no concern about the rule of law, safety, or the welfare of the public.

I would have answered that the question is not relevant to the discussion at hand, the ATF is an already established office of the government, its existence is not in my hands, but that of the Congress, and that I do not have an opinion.

Between the gun manufacturer CEO hearings and Jan 6 hearings, Congress seems to have really degenerated into a 3rd world kangaroo court.

Which is the dumbest thing you've ever posted on this forum. And considering you have as many posts in your two years as I have in sixteen thats an accomplishment.
I voted for Trump twice to keep a Democrat out of office.
WE ALL deserve a candidate who isn't a liar and phony, but is a true Second Amendment advocate. Donald Trump wasn't that candidate. He lied to us.
I've NEVER in the last forty seven years been happy with any politician I've voted for. It's always been the lesser evil, the political nitwit that will do the least harm.....and in some cases just lie a little bit less.

Look what anti gun regulations were implemented in Trumps four years vs Obamas eight years and ask yourself if we were better off.

The only thing I know of is the bump stock executive order. While stupid, it did shut down further attempts by Democrats to bring forth a new AWB after the LV shooting.
