What ammo works best with the full slide Marvel .22 1911 conversion kit?

I had some FTFs today with a couple different brands. The manual says shoot high velocity and both brands I was shooting had that on the box. Neither was expensive.

Should I shoot CCI Minimags or what?

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,
Sounds like you have the Marvel Model 2 where the full slide recoils. I would recommend CCI MiniMag ammo for your Marvel conversion, at least for the first 500-1000 rounds, until the black finish on the slide bearing surfaces smooths out. The little .22 LR doesn't have much extra energy to overcome the friction added by this paint finish on slide bearing surfaces. Hint: With my Marvel Unit 1, I CAREFULLY polished these bearing surfaces LIGHTLY with 400 grit sandpaper on wooden stick to speed up break in. After about 500-700 rounds, my Unit 1 became 100% functional and hasn't hiccuped since. Have now probably fired 2500-3000 rounds.

Good shooting and be safe.
LB

ps: After break-in of my Marvel Unit 1 (different than your Model 2), Win HV, CCI HV, or CCI Std Vel ammo all function perfectly and shoot equally well.

I have a friend who has the less expensive Marvel model, and he said you have to run at least a few hundred rounds of high velocity ammo through it to break it in. After the break in period it should feed standard, and some target grade ammo with out problems.

I have two unit1's and I shoot CCI Standard Velocity in both with terrific results. I oiled and cleaned it a little more often when new.

I'd try shooting the Federal Automatch in 325-pack boxes from Walmart. In my experience the Aguila SV tended to get the chambers a tad dirtier requiring more cleaning to prevent the FTE/F.

It is a model 2. Thanks for the tips and I will follow them.

Appreciate it.

Jeff

I have the Marvel with the standard length slide. It works well with Aguilla Se - the SV stuff and Wolf match Target. I had problems using CCI SV because of the lube but it was fairly reliable.

Some guys I know have had feeding troubles and trouble with lead shaving.
It was traced to burrs on the magazines.
You might check that.
