MARYLAND CONTINUES STRING TO EIGHT YEARS:
HAS THE HIGHEST ROBBERY RATE OF ANY STATE.

The FBI reports Maryland's Robbery rate at 245.8 per 100,000 for 2002
beating the next highest state, NEVADA with 235.5, by more than 4%.
Maryland has held this top spot in robbery since the first year of the
Glendening-Townsend administration. Keeping that ranking in 2002 means
a clean sweep for the eight years of their administration.

A surge in murder in Prince George's and Montgomery Counties returns
Maryland to a #2 ranking in Murder rate with 9.4 murders per 100,000.
Prince George's County recorded 137 homicides in 2002, a 17 percent
increase from the 2001 tally of 117 killings. Montgomery County closed
2002 with 32 slayings, up from 19 in 2001 and the most since 1994 with
six of the killings from the sniper attacks. Even discounting the
sniper killings, Montgomery County's homicides increased 36.8% from the
previous year.

Baltimore City, with a smaller population than Prince George's or
Montgomery Counties, continued its high level of homicides with 253 in
2002, a rate of 37.7 per 100,000. That rate places Baltimore City third
behind Washington, DC, and Detroit. Baltimore's high level of homicides
was twice that of nearby Philadelphia (rate 18.9) and 3.5 times that of
Jacksonville, Florida (11.7). Baltimore's murder rate was many times
higher than in the Texas cities of Fort Worth (4 times), Austin (10
times), and El Paso (15.7 times).

In overall violent crime, Maryland was third in 2002 having 769.2
violent crimes per 100,000.

Maryland Citizens Defense League (MCDL) President Ed Patrick
said, "Instead of empowering the criminal, public safety policies in
Maryland should encourage the public to provide for their own safety
and security. It is past time for Maryland to join the 36 other
progressive states that have achieved greater safety for all citizens
by adopting 'shall-issue' concealed carry."

Mr. Patrick noted that each of the cities in Texas, Florida, and
Pennsylvania are in states with "shall issue" concealed carry policies.

Won't ever happen. Even with our Republican governor, there's WAY too many leftist, liberal blissninnies who would throw everything they can into defeating any bill that would empower the public to defend themselves.

Besides, if the public defended themselves and crime decreased dramatically, what would we do with all of those surplus police officers?

Won't ever happen.
Well, probably not if that typifies MD gunowners' attitudes. There is plentiful evidence right across the river for Maryland leaders to observe that widespread respect of the RKBA correlates with generally lower violent crime. Y'all just have to start rubbing their noses in it.:banghead:

The only chance we might have is if Washington DC changes. If there is enough pressure to change the laws in DC from the Virginia commuters, Maryland could have a chance. We're surrounded by states with lower crime rates, and liberal concealed carry laws. And yet our political environment is driven by the liberals that suffer most of the criminal activity, go figure...
Crazy

Leatherneck, I have tried to rub their noses in it. With the liberal twits I have in this part of Maryland for Senator and Delegates, I am totally wasting my time. They will not even respond to letters on the subject citing all this crime rate data and the fact that the Brady Bunch gave Maryland its highest grade among all States (a perfect A) for having the most expansive gun-control laws.

I send my money to pro-gun owner Maryland politicians like Alex Mooney even though he does not represent my District.

It does not help either that our new Republican Governor is AWOL on supporting gun owners in Maryland after they helped elect him. And, I contributed quite a bit of money to Erhlich's campaign.

I have previously posted my response to a letter to Rep. Ben Cardin. Basically, he told me to go pound sand, though he does appreciate my input.

I have written letters to all my Senators, reps, State Senators, and Delegates. Every single one is a liberal Democrat in favor of more gun control. I'm real concerned that they are going to try to puch through a state AWB bill, as it has been proposed in the legislature.

How can we be so out there on guns? We're surrounded by Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia (gun friendly, cept maybe for cities in PA and NoVa), Delaware (kinda neutral) and DC (much worse than us). Shouldn't we be in the middle?

When the best we can hope for out of Erlich is that he actually enforces the "may issue" that calls for producing bank receipts and only allow carry to and from the bank, or copies of police reports of death threats for CCW, I will continue to lump Maryland into the "no issue" CCW states.

And sadly, that may be the best he can do....

...the fact that the Brady Bunch gave Maryland its highest grade among all States (a perfect A) for having the most expansive gun-control laws.

I think "draconian" or "repressive" or "anti-constitutional" or "prohibitive" or "punitive" might be better adjectives than "expansive."

As a former resident, I mean inmate, in the state of Maryland, I can say that Maryland is well on its way to forming the perfect leftist utopia. Perhaps one day Maryland will adopt sensible gun laws (meaning a "needs based" method of determining eligibility for gun ownership). To most Marylanders utopia does exist, and its just a matter of banning handguns through "safety" legislation and strictly regulating the sale of long guns.

Meanwhile, in the real world outside of la la land, there is no utopia. The streets of Maryland are mean, and getting meaner as each round of gun control legislation is enacted into law. Not that many Marylanders realize that cell phones and 911 can't protect them, after all, Maryland is well on its way to being the second handgun free utopia. The left-wing paradise of Washington, D.C. was the first. Good Luck Maryland. You're going to need it.

But... but with all the gun control, shouldn't there be fewer gun-produced mind control rays to make criminals do bad stuff? I'm so confused!

Very sad, so much for the "Free State'.

I grew up(?) in Bethesda in he `60's. It was different then, but one oculd see the writing on the wall.

We own a lot down in S. MD (Solomons), as we keep a boat there and would like to retire there and go sailing,

But I'm sorta scared, as I look into building codes, etc., the nannyism is rampant. Some isn't to bad, but some is genuinely intrusive. I don't know what it actually means day-to-day, as I strive to stay off the radar, but Lord help you if you run afoul. And I like the security of my VA CWP (both wife & I are gimpy, might look more like a target of opportunity in MD).

Plan B: just bought 12 acres outside Santa Fe, downside - not much sailing in NM:( , but sure is a different kind of pretty, ani't nothing like them big skies out East . . .

Choices are good:cool:
