1. Keep the Pressure Up On SB420, Civil Immunity Bill
You've demonstrated that exerting pressure on our elected officials can have positive effects as is evidenced by the Maryland State Police requesting that HB1446, the ammunition log bill, be withdrawn. Thanks to your efforts, the MSP and the General Assembly saw that this bill was dead on arrival and pulled it lest they be subjected to a defeat.
Now the question is whether we are satisfied with simply not losing or if we want to achieve a meaningful success.
The most obtainable success is to pass SB420, Senator Nancy Jacobs' Civil Immunity Bill, which has already been unanimously passed as HB332 in the House of Delegates.
We have the majority of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee.
We have an overwhelming amount of support for passage in the Senate as a whole.
We need a vote in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee in order to move this important piece of legislation along.
Trust us, your previous efforts on this bill ARE having an effect. We ARE having an impact on this bill's future and if we continue to capitalize on the momentum generated by the defeat of HB1446, we will see this bill finally pass after three previous attempts.
Even though most of you have already done so, it is time to work up yet another round of emails on this bill. As always, we urge you to represent our community appropriately and keep the tone of your communications professional while avoiding inflammatory language.

Dear Senator,
I am writing to you to ask for your support for SB420, the Civil Immunity Bill, as sponsored by Senator Nancy Jacobs and co-sponsored by more than 20 of your colleagues. SB420 would protect Maryland home owners from being sued by a criminal who is injured during the commission of a crime should the home owner be forced to defend his or her family. This bill does nothing to change the circumstances under which a citizen may use force to defend their family from a criminal within his or her home. SB420 simply aligns civil law with the standards currently practiced under criminal law and protects a homeowner from being twice victimized by those that would seek to do them harm.
The bill has been passed unanimously as HB332 but has been stalled in the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee where the Chairman, Senator Brian Frosh, has refused to schedule a vote. He has behaved similarly on three prior occasions when the bill has passed the House of Delegates unanimously. It is time for this bill to have an opportunity to receive an up or down vote on the floor of the Senate.
I respectfully request that you contact Senator Frosh and ask for a committee vote on SB420 so that it can be brought to the floor of the Senate for passage. The citizens of Maryland deserve this simple protection.

Congressman Frank Kratovil has signed on to a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder opposing the reinstatement of the Assault Weapons Ban. He is #61 on the letter below. It's a pity that only one of our elected officials at the federal level took this common sense stance.
