I live in Maryland and am thinking about buying a SKS rifle off the internet. I am a little unclear on Marylands laws for an SKS rifle. Has anyone in Maryland had experience with this? Also assuming a can even buy one what are some good websites?

Thanks

it appears they've passed an assault weapons ban that will take effect SEPTEMBER 13TH

i read through it real quick and it has EVIL FEATURES among other things, you cannont have a detachable magazine on an SKS (or any mag greater than 10 rounds)

hmm, what is a Wilkinson semiautomatic "Linda" pistol? i searched google and only found BILLS

I am pretty sure that bill was defeated also. I was just wondering if anyone has purchased one recently and what they had to go through.
With Maryland laws can I even buy one online?

Yep no MD AWB so you're good. If you have a C&R it's no problem you can get it shipped to you. If you don't have a C&R you might as well try and find one locally as most places I know of charge a hell of a lot for transfer fees so an internet price reaches shop prices pretty quickly. If you still wanna buy online you can, you just have to have it transfered to an 01 FFL.

The regular SKS, which does not have a detachable magazine, is not a regulated firearm in Maryland. But unless you have a C&R license, you will still have to have it shipped to an FFL dealer in Maryland. You will have to send a signed copy of his license along with the money.

BTW, the bill mentioned did NOT pass, but the sponsors are probably out hiring a couple of more beltway snipers, so it will be back next year, worse than ever.

Just to clarify. MD already bans the sale (but not possession) of a bunch of named "assault handguns" (Tec 9 and the like), and purchase of any of a list of named "assault rifles" has to go through a waiting period and approval by the state police same as a handgun. The defeated bill would have required registration and banned the sale of all semi-auto rifles with detachable magazines (the wording on evil features was deliberately fuzzed, but that was the intent).

Hit the next gunshow and you have a good chance of picking up a "shooter's grade" sks for $99.

I got mine about 6 months ago from a guy named Lou at Shooter's Discount in Arbutus (just outside of Baltimore) for $130 out the door. It's a cash and carry deal, as long as you can pass the 30 second NICS check.

What Spot77 said...go on over to Shooter's Discount and get one from Lou.....great guns at a fair price
