Anyone know if the great gun-unfriendly Old Line State (say, doesn't that have to do with using evil guns in the Revolution? ) regards the SKS as an eeevviill assault rifle with the usual nonsense of the 7 day wait and Maryland State Police background check?

I'll bet we do, but if not I want to pick one up in case the leftists get their state AWB through...

Thanks.

Maryland still isn't as bad as the PRK. SKS' are C&R so you can have one delivered right to your door if you have a 03 (C&R) FFL.

(d) "Assault weapon" means any of the following
specific firearms or their copies regardless
of which company produced and manufactured
that firearm:
(35) SKS with detachable magazine;

They only way they consider an SKS a restricted firearm is if it has a detachable magazine. Otherwise just the standard fixed 10 rounder and you can take it home that day.

Ditto Norton's post......

Shooter's Discount in Arbutus....Yugo SKS at $139.

Walk in, check "no" to all the dumb questions on the form, wait 2 minutes for NICS check to clear, and have a great day.

check "no" to all the dumb questions on the form

Cept for dumb question #1 about "are you the actual purchaser..."

Seriously, thanks for the info, I better pick one up before they ARE on the new state AWB bill (please write, I have, though I know the odds are long).

Unfortunately, "assault weapons" are the one thing that resonates with the "neutrals" out there (nationwide, of course, especially so in MD after the sniper shootings) . They can understand carrying handguns for protection, but the antis have done a great job in pushing why what a weapon looks like means "no one NEEDS to own that".:fire:

Just bought my first Mosin Nagant from Shooter's Discount at the Pikesville gun show last weekend! I guess I'll be back to get the SKS.....

Spot...

Could you please elaborate on Shooters Discount. Is that their normal price? Are they in good condition, or real beat up?

If they are that price and in decent condition, I'm there tuesday to pick one up!

slh02,

I got mine from Shooter's Discount about two weeks before Spot did. Mine was still packed in cosmoline while his was not.

I've shot both guns and they are both in great shape, though mine might be a tad better in the cosmetics department. Accuracy wise, seems to be pretty good...though my guess is that any problems are more due to the operator and not the gun!

Mine was $149.....not sure what Spot paid for his.

Uh, SKSs aren't "assault weapons" in CA either, unless they have detachable mags (or eeevill grenade launchers - CA Yugos have the launcher replaced with a 'muzzle brake". Gotta prevent them rampant drive-by grenade attacks.)

What's even sillier is that the Original Jenyoowine "Assault Weapons" Ban in CA in '89 was a response to Patrick Purdy shooting up a Stockton CA schoolyard. With an SKS.

:banghead: :cuss: :fire:

Well im going to head down there tomorrow and check them out. If i can find one in good shape for a decent price, I'll pick it up. Thanks for all of your help guys, I didnt even know that place existed!:D

Yes, they ARE closed on Tuesdays.

My SKS was $139, and was not all gumped up in cosmo.

Norton's right about the functionality.....both of ours seem to shoot well with no real problems.

Norton's has a much nicer look to it....different wood, different color and appears to have never really been handled. Mine looks like it has a few thousand rounds through it. I might get bold one day and strip it and refinish it.

Good luck!

Thanks for saving me a trip guys, I probably would not have been too happy had I rode down there just to find them closed.

I'm much more concerned about the steel components rather than the stock as I plan to accesorize. Hopefully they will let me select my own so I can get what I am looking for.

Does anyone know their normal hours... I could not find a website for them.

Thanks again.

Website?? Heh, heh.....you'll be lucky if you can find the store.....proverbial whole in the wall, downstairs side entrance, no signage to speak of. In other words....my kind of place!!
