KBOB, you can buy commercial brass when available from Graf & Sons. Find some Prvi Partisan or FNM ammo and save the brass when done shooting, saves on the hassle of reforming other brass to work. I put my recipe in my earlier post, works well in my rifle. I started with a lesser grain, but the action would not cycle properly. Worked up to the 36gr I posted and that made all the difference. The Syrian ammo I had (200 rds) was all basically no bang bang, even after waiting a few seconds and trying again. So I pulled all the bullets for future reloading.

short range trip today=rained out
Picked up the ammo yesterday factory and reloads from seller
Factory and unsure the manufacturer/bullet weight

I've heard this BS repeated a thousand times. Seeing it in this article tends to reduce the author's credibility.
Urban legend. In fact, I thing the ping of the thing may have gotten more Germans killed that Americans. GIs would keep an empty one handy. Fire a couple of rounds and then toss the thing. Presumably the enemy, thinking the weapons was empty would show himself.

I'll bet that en-bloc clip is responsible for more gun-related urban legends than any other thing. With the "M-16 bullet tumbles in flight" nonsense coming in at number 2.

Very nice rifle that.

I think the Germans and Japanese were smart enough to know Americans don't come in ones. They come in squads and platoons. When you hear one clip go ping! there are a dozen other riflemen whose rifles are loaded and ready.

my uncle and his squad killed 25-30 japanese at 50-60 yards in just seconds in a ally in manila pi. with m-1 garands, when they saw them comming before they were seen by the japanese as they tried to run into another ally. he said he fired three or four enbloc,s of ammo as fast as he could as the others did and he said he remembered his hearing was gone for a few hours. so i,m sure the japanese did not hear a ping in their last fight. eastbank.

Interesting post. Thanks for the pictures. I saw my first M49 in Feb. 1968 in the hands of some French AG advisers.

Saw an interesting BBC documentary on battles between Alawite and Sunni militias in Lebanon a few months ago. Sure enough, an Alawite militiaman was shooting a 49/56 with scope in a gun battle.

ifit, you have some of the most interesting rifles. Congrats on getting that MAS.

I almost wish some of my guns had that nylon looking bolt handle. It might prevent some scratches on other guns in the safe. :D
