In the post referenced above I related how the Massachusetts AG had tried (and damn near succeeded) in shutting down all out-of-state mail order ammunition purchases by Massachusetts citizens.

Well, it is starting to break down. After almost two months or so of no sales to Massachusetts, Eric the Ammoman has resumed sales to those of us in the People's Commonwealth. The only new requirement is that he needs to have a copy of your FID card or LTC on file before he will ship to you. This mirrors Massachusetts state law as in-state vendors are required to check either of these documents before selling you ammo.

This is a start and I hope that other big-time mail order firms will reverse course and join Eric in recognizing that Massachusetts citizens should not be held hostage by an anti-gun AG.

Thanks Eric.

So has the AG adited he was in the wrong? I was just speaking to Dan of Dan's sporting goods and he said that the SG lowered the fee he fined him in his sting opperation from $5,000, to 2.5Gs. shouldn't the AG be issuing an apology insteady? I told Dan to contact Erick the ammo man and get the word.

Blain...

"Hey Price, you attending Cloud's seminar this weekend?"

Not sure what you are talking about. Unfortunately I am watching the kids this weekend while the wife helps her mother do a tag sale.

In regards to your other post, I still have not gotten a good explanation from GOAL about what is going on. I do know that about a week ago I tried to order from Midway and was informed that they just received instructions not to ship ammo to MA. I think we have a long way to go.

Since the AG never made his sting operation public, I highly doubt that he would issue any sort of apology or reversal.

If it's not confirmed, then why is ammoman resuming sales to MA? Are you SURE ammoman is resuming sales?

From what I can gather the AG did a sting by ordering ammo without proving his ID (That he was over 18 or 21, that he was legal to own ammo, etc.). I would hazard a guess that the companies who are still shipping to MA are the ones who require a copy of either your drivers license (to prove age) or a MA permit which is required in order to own, purchase, touch, etc. a round of ammo in the Commomwealth (and that applies to empty brass too. :banghead:

So companies who follow this requirement are following the same rules as if you walked into a shop physically located in MA and had to present your FID or LTC. They should be safe by following the same rules as a in state purveyors follow.

My $.02

The gun dealer I spoke with told me that people arn't supposed to photocopy their licenses and those that do are supposed to loose their licenses!

I have a shipment due in tomorrow. My CC was charged and UPS is tracking a shipment.

Ask him to explain why and point out the applicable MGL that states this.

Then ask him if he supports your right to buy from an out-of-state vendor who will beat his prices.

Edited to add:

I am sure that it is against the law to photocopy a license for purposes of using it for an illegal purpose. But that is not the same thing as photocopying your license to send to a vendor to prove that you have a valid license for purposes of ordering items you need the license to possess.

It's not illegal to copy your CCW or FID card in Mass.

As a matter of fact, dealers were taking copies of the licenses in Ma. for quite some time when you purchased a gun or ammo per the AG for them to keep on file that they sold to a licensed citizen.

The dealer who told Blain that was blowing smoke.

Blain should be asking GOAL/Mass. these questions he has. They are very up to speed with the states laws and regs on a daily basis.

Actually, a civilized state would have laws that are simple to understand, and remember.

I can think of 10 simple ones right off the top of my head. I learned them in Sunday school. They cover pretty much everything.

Don't you just love places that change their laws and regulations on a daily basis? :scrutiny: :uhoh: :barf:
