For the first time in over a decade, two of the country's most articulate and experienced instructors have joined together to provide an in-depth analysis of the vast variety of shooting and tactical techniques currently being advocated for self-defense. Those attending this 4 1/2 day course will learn what works and what doesn¡¯t, both from a tactical and legal perspective. While part lecture and discussion, most of the class will be hands on instruction ranging from numerous shooting techniques and their tactical application, to weapon retention, close range combat, and much, much more.

The range is just north of Jacksonville, FL and tuition is $800. To enroll or for additional information contact Defense Associates at 203-261-8719 or www.defenseassociates.com

class...

and Massage Aboob will teach you how he conceals an S&W 629 under his new toupee'!! just kidding, i couldn't let it "just go by"....

That should be an interesting class; I don't think Ayoob, and Taylor agree on "anything".

So let's see. $800.00 for the class and that dosen't include the expense of a motel, meals and transportation. I'm in Idaho so I (i.e. my police department) would probably be looking at somewhere in the range of $2,500 - $3,000 for 4.5 days of training. Boy it better be simply AMAZING,BREATHTAKING,and STUPENDOUS training. I talked to an officer who attended one of Ayoob's seminars back in 1983. It was a two day course. He said that the first couple of hours of the seminar they got to stand around and watch Ayoob demonstrate his shooting ability. Now he said that Ayoob was one heck of a shooter, but everyone had some difficulty figuring how it was training them. He also said that Ayoob spent alot of time telling war stories. Twenty-one years later I have to wonder what he's like now. Guess I won't be going.

In a class I took with Taylor a year or so back he said he disagreed with a lof of what Ayoob said... would be interesting to see if they 'share' teaching time or do a tag-team approach.

$175/day for training from nationally renowned instructors is fairly standard pricing. Taylor and Ayoob are both very big names, and a course with the two of them together doesn't come along but once in a blue moon. Sounds like a good value for the money, even if some less affluent folks can't afford it.

If you've never taken a class from either one of these guys, don't know firsthand what either of them is teaching (only hearsay, and hearsay from 20 years ago at that!), and don't have any idea how good a class from one of these guys can be -- go ahead and talk smack, I guess. That's certainly better than listening to current class reports from folks who've actually been in one of their classes.

Thanks for the permission to talk smack. Last year I attended a firearms seminar that was sponsered by the NRA. The instructors were full-time cops who do the class a couple times a year. Excellent class and a whole lot more affordable. Those instructors don't have national magazines paying them top dollars for their articles ,they don't have a mail order business ( in this case I'm speaking of Ayoob - I don't know if Taylor does.) they don't get paid to promote products etc. Now our system is a free enterprise system and good for them for working it. I would imagine that both Taylor and Ayoob have made a pretty profit over the years and that's great.

But that dosen't mean I don't have a right to comment on the prices. Those are stiff and out of the reach for many. Not to mention that there are other parts of the country that have more then enough motels - like perhaps Denver or Kansas City or perhaps Omaha? Maybe Louisville or St. Louis. Somplace more central and not as pricey? I noticed that the class is in And as far as relating hearsay - well so? Most information that gets passed on is hearsay. Forums are mostly hearsay. Hearsay is no good in a court of law, but this isn't a court of law.Have a good one.

Cool. That's less than an hour from my house. I will have to look into this one.
