I don't post here, but I came accross this article today and thought someone here can enlighten me.

So, the number of gun permits drop 25% in Massechusetts since their 1998 gun control act. What's happened to the crime rate since then, and what was the trend prior to the ACT??

While I haven't found data for YTD 2007 yet, it seems Boston and Mass have their highest rate of violent crime in 10 years in 2006, and it's pretty much been climbing since the act went in place in 1998.

I also came accross some articles that mentioned 1997 as being the low point in Boston Violent crime for the previous 10 years as it was trending down prior to the Act.

Perhaps someone with better research skills than I can find out the numbers and percentages.

It's interesting that in the article, they mentioned the decrease in permits, but did not mention the change in the crime rate. I would think that a graph showing the decrease in violent crime prior to 1998, and the increase afterwards, would be enlightening.

Just my $.02.

From our state gun rights group : Gun Owners Action League :

On Monday, April 03, 2006 the Boston Globe carried yet another headline reporting the exploding violence in our state capital. According to the article, through March 30th of this year, there have been 87 fatal and nonfatal shootings. This number is up 67 percent from the same time last year. Using the latest numbers it is clear that this year is on track to become the most violent in over a decade. For anyone who has been following the statistical results of Chapter 180 of the Acts of 1998, this should be no surprise.

Oh, no. This isn't activism .... it's not about doing something. It's about the effect in Massachusetts of liberal politics. We can't be discussing that.
