So I have wanted an LAR Grizzly Big Boar forever, and as I search for one I have to wonder what is the functional difference between the Field grade and match grade chambers? I know that match chambers will yeild better results down range obviously, but I also see some sources say mil-surp ammo wwon't chamber a match chambered gun. Is this so? Thanks!!

Traditionally a match chamber is cut to much tighter tolerances than a standard chamber. So, yes, mil-sup ammo may not work great in a match chamber. A match chamber may be prone to locking up when exposed to dirt, dust and crud. But it may well yield better accuracy.

None of my competition rifles, AR and FAL, have match chambers and I have never noticed they need one. But then I am not shooting for one ragged hole, just a hit on steel.

You guessed right, plus you'll need to turn the necks to get the brass into a match chamber.

Unless you plan on shooting in matches all the time I would get a standard chamber and a different rifle. Not that there's anything wrong with the Grizzly but it's just not a match rifle. Out of all the .50's that I've shot it also has the most felt recoil, think 12ga with magnum rounds!

Plus the Grizzly is a shell holder, this means you have to take the bolt out and place a round on it. Then place the bolt and round back in to shoot it. You also can't adjust the trigger, how it comes from the factory is it. People that have messed with a shell holder trigger have found out the hard way why you don't. Think bolt through your shoulder type of bad!

Don't let that scare you away from a shell holder design, they're a sound design as long as "you" don't mess with it. Let the factory do any adjustment and testing as they deal with them daily.

If you want a better shell holder design, contact Larry from State Arms/Eastridge Gun Co. he'll help talk you through shell holder type of rifles. Plus SA rifle are proven match winners, you can look it up on the Fifty Caliber Shooters Associations list of winners over the years.
