I recently acquired my C&R and was intrigued by the Mauser projects I've seen on the 'Net. I was looking a prices and noticed that JG Sales has the BRNO 98/22 rifle for $70. It comes with no accessories and it states that the stock and finish might be worn.

Assuming I intend to strip the rifle once I receive it, is this a good action to rebuild from since I'm not even going to use the barrel and stock and will have the action trued and refinished? Or should I go with the VZ24 from AIM which is $159?

I may end up getting a VZ24 anyway for a shooter. Damn this C&R. The money saved on the Midway dealer discount just ends up getting spent on more C&R guns.

Yes, unless it has grossly excessive headspace as in the lugs being set back into the reciever, it is a great choice to build a custom rifle on.

Most ones I've seen have had very solid actions.

I know what you mean. My C&R is not even in and I have bought a MAS36 in .308 and are looking at getting more .308 C&R rifles. I sent of for the license so that I could get the discount from Brownells and Midway. Some savings :p.
