Got this off Ebay, thinking it would fit my K98 but (apprently my bayo ID-Fu is very weak) I was wrong (and in the sellers defense, he clearly stated he was an atiques guy, not a gun guy, he was told by a friend it was PROBABLY for german Mauser of some sort, so not thier fault at all). The handle slides over the lug, add locks just fine n both my k98 and 71/84, and the hole for the barrel is a perfect fit for the k98, but with it locked on the lug the barrel doesnt line up with the hole (again, for the k98).The hole stands about 1" too far away from the hande/blade.Only markings are the serial #, and the letters S F A and the handle (stamped in twice, one right above the other, FWIW).Anybody able to tell me the county of origin for this bayo, and what mauser it would likely go to? I want to re-sell it to put the $ towards getting the correct bayo for my k98 (I was hoping to get lucky with this one being correct, and a really good deal). Thanks

Turk. Probably says AS FA or Ankara on the hilt, and by the looks it's a defo a Turk.

Thats what someone on TFL is saying also, (he says Turk model 38) so with 3 of you saying Turk mauser now, it looks like you guys have correctly and quickly ID'd something yet gain. The SFA stamp starts right where the hilt curves, so I'm betting the "A" just didnt take because of the curve.Excellent job yet again, you bunch of gun geeks! Thanks.

I recently got a K98 bayo off Ebay also,I studied the photos real hard, looked at the seller, read the titles.I wound up with a decent one after loosing several auctions because they got to the point I thought was too much.

I have seen a few suspect ones listed as K98,maybe the were a Yugo, but if I had any suspicion I passed on it.

After scouring Ebay for the last month getting several bayonets,I think the best deals right now are Swed M96 and Swiss K31's thought the Swiss are kinda pricy but oh the are like mint and sweet.

Any WW2 American bayo cutdown or not in decent shape are pricey also.So are SVT's.

Argentine 1891 and 1909 bayo's seem to be around alot right now, very nice blades though the 1891's useally have the` crest ground off.

Yeah, I REALLY want a bayo for my K31, but they tend to go for as much as I paid for the whol erifle! (haven't looked in about a year, so maybe they've come down, but I highly doubt it :() I REALLY hate not having a bayo for a milsurp that should have one,it just bugs me and doesnt "look right", same thing with cleaning rods, slings and ar-15/m16 carry handles.Wierd OCD milsurp thing I guess.Just got the cleaning rod for my k98 and a bayo for my Garand this Christmas. Now I just need a bayo and sling for my Prussian Mauser 71/84, a Chinese sling for my Mosin Type 53, and the swiss bayo. Then everything ill be "whole" again...

yeah for a long time I just didn't give thought to having bayonets to go with my rifles unless by chance they just happened to come with one.Now I caught up almost, and man, accessories add up real quick.:uhoh:

Yes accessories for the K31 are not budget,go see what a new unissued (real one) sling for a K31 goes for....about as much as a fair condition K31 rifle. The sawback bayonets are real pricey, but the spear type is about half typically.

I always focused on buying a gun if I had the money rather than a bayonet, because a bayonet really is collecting,a gun you can use but they are interesting and yes it does add to the completeness of a collection.

Garand bayonets,I have a M5,those aren't too bad in price,a 10" 0r 16" is gonna be pricey.Which bothers me because down the roadto complete having a bayonet for my M1903a3 I gonna have to get one,but not right now.

Another nice bayonet that is not too pricey is the Persian mauser one.

A Finnish M39 bayonet?..........good luck.:uhoh:

Kills me not having slings or a bayonet for one of my milsurps. Don't know why either. Just managed to find a sling for my 1884 Springfield Trapdoor, resigned myself that I'll probably never find a bayonet for it. Been browsing for a K-31 bayonet but each time I find a good deal on one I always seem to miss it. One day I'll just get fed up and pay for it but I still hope on a good deal. Guess I was lucky that my K31 came with sling allready lol.

Trapdoor bayonets are easy to find; condition and price vary accordingly. are you looking for a representative sample, or a correct 1884 bayonet?

I just got a sling for the K98,for that I got a reproduction sling. Some slings are just too hard to find as original, and some are just worn out or very pricey.

Slings I'm willing to go reproduction in certain cases, bayonets I'd rather stay as original non repro, though the Finnish M39 is one bayonet I might be willing to go reproduction.

Having been on Ebay alot lately,I'm seeing FR-7 and SIG bayonets are a great deal right now, though the rifles are uncommon lol.

Either or. Considering it's hard to find information on the rifle configuration I have as it is (Buffington site but it looks to be a cadet model of the 1884, bunch of conflicting information lol)

There is a website:Ammunition to go, NOT Ammo to go, a different site, that has a quantity of Swiss bayonets for $19.95, that should fit your K-31

I just went there, the photo won't enlarge too much but it looks like the sig57 bayonets.I dunno if those fit on K31,but here is a photo of both types excluding the sawback bayonet also available for the K31.The one with the black handle are stg57
