I want to put iron sights on my sporterized M48 Mauser. It has the military barrel which is cut to about 18" and has a diameter at the muzzle of ~.610". I would like to find something like this that can be silver soldered in place and paired with a receiver mounted rear peep.

Is there a similar part that would be commonly available on the used market with the proper diameter?

That type of sight would fit and look nice on the Mauser.
But trying to find one the correct size on the used market, might be a little hard.
But similar sights are availabe from Brownell's and places like Midway USA.
Gun Parts Corp is hit and miss on the Used Market for Specific sights.
But a Williams Streamline ramp that doesn't have a Band around the barrel is a good option, and come in several Heights, and availabe in Screw On or Solder on models.
On my Mausers, I think I use the 7/16 high Williams streamline base.
It tends to give me the widest range of front sight heights for different rear sight applications.

Never seen a used one for sale, but they available new at Brownells. Part # 661-120-618 is .610" ID. Made by New England Custom Guns. $75 retail, less if you get the discount. You can search eBay, GunBroker, or other auctions for a used one and you might get lucky.

If I were you and you wanted to see what was out there, I suggest you stop by your Local gunsmith shop and see what he has in his spare or take off parts pile.
I accumulate parts, and end up using them or selling them to people from time to time.
But currently I am low on stock of take off sights.

I need to make some phone calls on Monday to see if any of the gunsmiths in this area do work on stuff other than Glocks and ARs. That NECG looks about perfect but the $75 price tag is pretty steep.

On a different but similar note, if I use receiver peep sight will that interfere with installing a trigger with a side safety? Right now I have a low swing safety and Bold trigger but had been thinking about fitting a commercial bolt shroud and side safety trigger.

No, a receiver sight will mount further foreward, right over the rear receiver ring.
Well foreward of any type of safety.

What type of stock are you using on the rifle ?
A cut down sporterized military ?
I like the Yugo's, they make a nice little Brush gun, but very loud with an 18" barrel.

Do you plan to run only iron sights or have the option of a scope, too? There are sight bases available that allow installation of a peep sight on one of the sight bases and some that even have a fold down rear peep built in.

The rifle is in a Boyds stock. I plan to make this one iron sights only.

Here's how it sits now. Drilled and tapped for weaver bases.

The banded front sight is very classy but requires a lot more labor to get it to fit than a regular ramped front sight. It's also harder to do without damaging the finish (if you care about the finish).

I think this project will go on hold for a bit. I managed to pick up a VZ24 for cheap, about the same price as a NECG front sight setup. I'll shoot this one irons and decide if I still want to redo my other one.
