So I bought a used Mauser (I won't say what I paid for it because it was my first Mauser ever and I may not have researched as well as I should...). I'm pretty sure it is a Yugo, you'll see why in a second. However, the only markings I can find on it are the import markings - 8mm Zastava Yugoslavia, MMC H.B. CA. Other than that, there are no markings anywhere on the rifle other than the numbers (which are all matching, but I think they've been re-stamped). It is a bent bolt, so I am assuming M48, but it does not have the Yugo crest, and I don't see any ground off markings either...The seller just had it marked as a Mauser....

Any help appreciated.....

Pics are needed to be able to tell you anything other than the Zastava factory in the former Yugoslavia did make military mauser rifles and still makes commercial mausers.

M48...

Here too. IIRC, they did make a "scrubbed" version, i.e. with no markings other than serial numbers. It was to have been sold to some third party who didn't want the Yugo crest and such, then the sale fell through. don't recall the details.

I would say that www.surplusrifle.com would be your best bet for further info, but that excellent source may have been shut down.

ETA: Yep, that URL comes up blank. They used to put out a CD with all their info on it; see if you can find one of those.

That bolt looks like a round nob instead of half flat, if it is round then that is a scrubbed and molested k98 or possibly a m24 with a turned down bolt. but if the bolt is half flat then its a m48 which would be priced 250-400$ depending where your at.

Are you sure it's not one of the new production Zastava's, the make the 798 for Rem-Chester or whoever (used to be Charles Daley) so their Mauser line is still in operation and every so often you hear of NEW production Mil-Spec Mausers coming, from you guessed it, Zastava (all though I have heard of FN and Swedish ones, but not for a LONG time)

Shadow, I really have no idea. Theoretically it could be one of those, or it could be the M48BO (how's that for recently acquired knowledge) built for export with no markings.

Smokey, Surplus Rifle is still available, just archived. http://207.36.233.89/index.asp. Just found that link.

If I dare mention their name, Mitchell's Mausers still imports some of the new ones, most notably their Tanker model....

Thats who else brings in the 'mil spec' mauser
I would say that it's NOT a BO
BECAUSE IT SAYS 'ZASTAVA' on the billboard
A BO should have the importers name etc. and YUGOSLAVIA (since it came out of stores)
last I checked

I believe the MMC H.B. CA is the importer's name. If I were a betting man, I would say it stands for Mitchell's Mausers Corporation, Huntington Beach, CA....

YEP, missed that, thanks
and that is that folks

This IS NOT A M48BO
it is a NEW production Mauser made in Serbia by Zastava (who also build the Remington 798 line hunting rifles based off the Mauser 98 action- so it's a good gun)

It just ISN'T a WWII gun, it's a commercial reproduction, sold by a Snake Oil (faker, forger sham artist) Mitchels Mauser
NO collector value, but still a cool shooter.

Mil-Surp or commercial repro still a really nice rifle and should be a hell of a shooter. The commercial imported 8mm ammo will be full power but expect domestic ammo to be slightly reduced loads.
