I was in a local gas station and spotted either Personal Defense or Home defense magazine and on the cover was a Maverick O/U shotgun made for HD to compete with stoegers double defense SxS

Ive searched the intrawebs and found only one thing and that was some other person on another forum looking for info too... he didnt get anywhere either

Mavericks site doesnt have anything on it either

Anyone know anything?

Im not interested in buying one for HD I just wanna know a bit more about it

Honestly I dont remember lol...
all I really remember was that it was an 18 inch or so barreled over under that was all black and it had a light on it

I didnt take time to read much about it because I was just grabbing a quick lunch in a convenience store and noticed it on my way out of the bathroom

I tend to do that instead of buying a magazine ill get the make/model or at least a general idea so I can research online... this is one of very few models I have had trouble finding info on

I know it has at least one rail on the side where the light (what i suspected to be either a streamlight TLR or surefire M200) was mounted

Its called the Maverick HS12,

It's got a rail on top of the aluminum receiver and another one under the barrels down at the muzzle end, it carries a very handgun-looking ramped front sight with a red light pipe. It has 18.5" barrels and a total length of 35.5" and weighs in at just over 6lb. The gun is equipped with extractors, not ejectors, so when you break it open the spent shells don't come flying out, they just pop up a little and you have the grab 'em and pull 'em out, then reload and close the action. Its supposed to hit gun racks this month and MSRP is around $450 so I would expect to see some models going for a good bit under $400. Thats about all I can tell you, hope this helps

Perhaps the Mossberg Silver Reserve o/u didn't sell well, and this is how to dispose of stock. For what its worth, Fender did the same thing with leftover Electric 12s in the late 60's.

If you look at the pictures on GunBroker, it's a different gun than the Silver Reserve, different barrels & receiver....

Mossberg must have learned a lot from the Silver Reserves when they first came out. The initial ones had soft metal and brittle firing pins, in the last year or more you don't hear about problems with the newer ones.... BUT... the price is still an issue. When they used to sell for around $400 or so they were a decent value, for what you were getting. The S/R's are now selling at close to or above $600, for my money, they are WAY too expensive, as are these Maverick's.

Mossberg's own 930 Security/Field is less than $500 and is, by far and away, a much better HD option than this (IMO) poor excuse to get cash out of your wallet.... The Maverick or Mossberg pump would be even less coin....

Why would anyone pay $450 for an HD O/U? That's getting into good semi-auto range (mossberg 930?)

Smitty, unable to locate said item on GB. It's kind of made sense, with anything that can be painted black and with a short barrel called an HD model. I last heard that the reserves weren't selling well. For that kind of money, you could get two or three decent well traveled pumps off the used racks.

Here's the only picture I could find, but it doesn't show anything really...other than the back end of the receiver is a different shape than the Silver Reserve

thanks for the info

I have scoured the internet looking for pics of these new HD models and found nothing but the hunter models

I dont know why anyone would prefer these over a good pump for way less money either but I for some unknown reason do have a sickness in likeing the idea (just not willing to plunk down money for one) of these and the stoeger double defense... I guess I have a tactical cowboy fetish or something kinda like steam punk

Of all the things I don't get about these double guns designed for HD, one is why they do not have ejectors? I tend to think it is simply because they were based on guns that didn't have them and its a profit driven thing.

This is not a product that particularly interests me.

I ended up picking up that magazine and the artical stated the reason they had extractors and not ejectors was for cost savings...

I have no idea how much ejectors cost over extractors but I agree in a panic situation i want the firearm to do as much for me as possible

I don't get the point of an o/u for sd. Is it kept loaded? If so, where? You can keep a pump with a full mag and you're set to go with a rack of the slide. Seems to be a lot more things to worry about at 3am with an unloaded o/u next to the bed.

Why would it be UNloaded? keep it loaded, safety on, a simple click is easier than racking the slide - a gun of each type with equal barrel lengths means the O/U or SxS has a shorter OAL
