My take on this is simple. He and McCarthy are against legal guns. The guns that would be allowed on Amtrak would be legal and checked, just like the ones on airlines. In opposing this, Bloomberg proves beyone all doubt that he is against legal guns as well as illegal guns. Mayors that have joined his organization because they have been led to believe that it is only against illegal guns should take note and they should be held responsible if they do not withdraw.

Mayor Bloomberg rips Congress for plan to let guns on Amtrak
Mayor Bloomberg went underground Sunday to blow the whistle on the Senate's bid to allow guns on Amtrak trains.
The mayor blasted lawmakers for voting to strip $1.6 billion in funding from Amtrak unless it tosses a rule against guns in luggage put in place after the 2004 Madrid train bombings.
"This has nothing to do with the right to bear arms, and everything to do with keeping our country safe from terrorists," Bloomberg said at Penn Station.
"The legislation allowing guns on Amtrak was passed because of ideological politics - not public safety." Bloomberg was joined by mayors from cities in the region, as well as Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Nassau), who entered politics after her husband was murdered by a mad gunman who shot 25 people, killing six, on a Long Island Rail Road train in 1993.
"This shows that the [National Rifle Association] has too much influence over Congress," McCarthy said.
