THR Reloaders,
I bought 1,000, 140GRN .401 DIA, TCFP IDP #7 bullets from Missouri Bullet Company and am now looking for a good load using UNIQUE powder only. I will be using FED brass with WIN SP primer's and Unique powder, I have alot (10+ LBS) of unique powder and want to use it for my .40. I already use the Unique for .38 and MBC 158 grn wadcutters at 4.4 grns of unique and it works great. Alliant only list's 155 grn and up for load data. Im looking for a good, CLEAN plinking load at 800-950 fps max load. This will be shot out of my S&W #411 Semi Auto pistol with a oal of around 1.120. I have been learning from this site for a while now and this is the first time asking for help. Yes I have the ABC's of reloading, Barnes load book, Alliants (unique powder) load book, and have searched before asking for help. I will be loading on my LNL AP W/Hornady dies. I know I can count on THR and or Brad from MBC for some help. I look forward to reading your replies. Thank you THR. CAGWP BRAD. :)

155 gr Speer GDHP 1.12" OAL Unique 8gr 1,207fps

Since Alliant load data for the heavier 155gr JHP bullet shows 8gr max, should be ok to start loading for the lighter 140gr lead bullet at 5-10% below max.
You could start at 7.5gr.

I found this load data from Handloads.com for 135 gr 40 S&W. Although many have cautioned against the "guest" recipes, they also list factory load data. You could try some test loads starting at 7.5gr - 7.7gr at 1.12"-1.125" OAL.

8.5 gr Unique 1,290 fps 1.105" OAL WSP Alliant Suggested starting load: 7.7 gr

Hope this helped.

Thanks 1st reply

Thanks BDS, I'll look into it, I do have a chrono. I will check the load data. I am just trying to see if I cut a corner in this load development, have a safe load, and narrow it down to what I am looking for. CAGWP:).

Any one else have any load data using Unique for the 40? CAGWP
