They are slightly less reliable because of the absence of legs on the follower. This can cause the follower to turn in the mag body.
With that said, though, I've only had it happen a couple of times with my 15-rounders. Still, it's happened and it's never happened with the 13-round mags.
Please keep in mind that all of my 15-round Mec-gars are older magazines (pre-'94). I am working under the assumption that the newer ones have the same follower. I could be wrong.
I had a couple of 20-round MecGars for a BHP. They worked just fine. I think I have heard more negative things about the 15-round versions, though. I was perfectly happy with the 13-round mags, though.
I have 3 or 4 of them, well-used by now, never had any problems. I did glue the followers to the springs, however. My big issue with them is that the springs are unique, and they are impossible to find. Mecgar, both Connecticut and Italy, have refused to answer any letters, e-mail, or phone calls.
I have 1-15 rd Mec Gar and have had no problems with it,the follower is different on the bottom side(no legs) but that is what allows the mag to hold 15 rounds I suppose.I usually use my 13 rd mags for plinking/practice .
I have 4 of the 15rounders. I actually prefer them to the 13rd one that came with the gun. It seems that they're smoother, and drop free easier. Not sure what brand the 13rd mag is though. No problems with any of the magazines.
I have several. They have been flawless over several years.
Buy with confidence.
Many of the on-line suppliers have mags with law enforcement only marks left over from the ban.
If you don't want those marks you might try guns4ever.com.
When I had my BHPs, I ran the Mec-Gar 15's. The only problem I had was that they would not consistently lock the slide back. Switching to BHP factory followers fixed that issue, and they worked great.
