Don't forget to write your letters to Elected Officials:
Dear XXXX,
If you truly understand Gun Control you know that criminalizing law abiding citizens who happen to be Pro Second Amendment makes no sense. Study after study by the CDC and FBI has shown that additional gun control will do nothing to reduce crime rates and in fact will only make it more dangerous for law abiding citizens once criminals know that their victims are unarmed.
Unfortunately we are all watching a tragedy unfold on the TV today. By that I am referring to the Virginia Tech Shootings.
One of our Maryland State Senators this year was quoted on TV making a statement that he just didn't understand WHY the average citizen needed a handgun permit....XXXXX, Had JUST ONE PERSON had a concealed handgun on the Virginia Tech Campus today then this entire event could have been avoided.
We will likely hear politicians blame the firearm instead of the Criminal but many of you know that this tragedy could have been performed just as easily with a car/truck in a pedestrian intersection or sidewalk but it just happened to occur with a firearm.
Gun-free zones may be well-intentioned, but good intentions are not enough. It is an understandable desire to ban guns; after all, if you ban guns from an area, people can’t get shot, right? But time after time when these public shootings occur, they disproportionately take place in gun-free zones.
It is the law-abiding good citizens who would only use a gun for protection who obey these bans. Violating a gun-free zone at a place such as a public university may mean expulsion or firing and arrest, real penalties for law-abiding citizens. But for someone intent on killing others, adding on these penalties for violating a gun-free zone means little to someone who, if still alive, faces life in prison.
Unfortunately, instead of gun-free zones ensuring safety for victims, ensuring that the victims are unarmed only makes things safer for attackers.
When are folks going to start addressing the underlying issues and problems in society and stop penalizing the law abiding citizens who are looking for nothing more that the ability to protect themselves from Criminals!
Criminals don't pay attention to laws.....I know that SOME of you get that but too many of our elected leaders just don't get it! They think that heaping more laws on and further restricting the rights of law abiding citizens is going to improve the situation but the reality is that it doesn;t and it won't.
Focus on the Criminal Problem not the inanimate objects.
Lets focus on Criminal Control not Gun Control.
