Meghan's First Pheasant

Last Youth Pheasant Hunt of the season/year at Rock Hollow Conservation Club in Freeport, IL.

We had been to the ones in Jan and Feb and she's had shots at a couple of birds, knocked the tailfeathers off of one or two, as detailed in this thread. http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=185784

Well, this past Sunday, she finally got one !!!! Right after the shot, the bird dropped like a rock, and the dog took off for the Retrieve, she gave the big "YESSSS !!!!" with the fist pump.

I'm the guy behind the camera with a big ol' cheese eatin' grin.

(Before anyone freaks out and screams "She shot a non-legal Hen !!", this at a Hunting Preserve and both sexes are legal to take. )

I think she's hooked.....

Pat her on the back for me. The last 3 years I have taken my 13year old son,15 year old daughter, and a neighbor 14 year old girl. First time carrying a shotgun afield all 3 took deer. That makes it worth getting up a 4am.

So, are you going to frame those photos and put them up in the kitchen so the young gentlemen callers can see that your daughter knows how to operate firearms?

It didnt work for me. My 15 year old daughter shot a nice 10 point. Now all the boys want to hang out and go to the woods with her Not going to happen. LOL.

I noticed that in each photo that it appeared that the slide was down as in no shell in the chamber. Was this a safety issue or just a case of when the photo was taken? When hunting, I always have one in the chamber from the time I leave my vehicle unless crossing a fence or some other obstruction where an accident might occur. Honestly speaking, I usually just carefully lay the loaded shotgun on the other side of a fence and crawl under.

I am curious 22, why would you even attempt to nit pick the pict? Why not congradulate Scout for bringing another child to the hunting world? I am pretty sure the breech is not in the pict anyway. Then again, I guess someone has to bring out the NEG.

I wasn't trying to nitpic. My "nitpic" was not a negative. You're way too sensitive. There were already congratulations before I posted so I thought I would ask a question about the photos. I also feel that it is great for the young to get introduced to hunting as it is a great sport and a lot of fun. Wish I knew how to post photos like that in a strip.
