Melonite stainless steel?

No.

Melonite is a hard surface carburazation process.
It is colorless, and is finished with parkerizing to give it color.

Regular blue and regular Parkerizing will not blacken the usual stainless alloys used on gun parts.

Yet Melonited stainless is black. Do they have a different process or a different color coat? I don't know, but it sure is dark.

If you are having the whole gun Melonited, I bet it can be arranged for the grip safety to color match.

As I already mentioned.
Melonite, Glock Tenifer, etc, is a hard carburizing (Ferritic nitrocarburizing) process only.

It has no natural color, and is in fact just a hard surface on the bare steel you can see no difference in.
It is the same steel color as the unfinished steel.

Any black gun that has a Melonite or Tenifer finish was Parkerized, Blued, or otherwise finished on top of the clear Melenite / Tenifer surface.

The main finish is parkerized with the front strap cold blued from being stippled. It has a drop in beavertail grip safety. I happen to have a spare Wilson S.S. G.S. taken off another build and fitting jig.

I saw a picture of a S.S. S&W that had been melonized in black on a another forum. However it doesn't explain how he got the black finish. I could live with reparking the frame and grip safety but I would like to take advantage of one of the newer tougher finishes.

I want to stay away some of softer spray/bake finishes although Accurate Weapon & Plating is using a nickel base with ceracoating which they claim is harder.

Send the safety to Robar, tell them what you want and they can probably do it.

Sounds like you want a hard, durable dark finish. As others have mentioned thats not melonite by itself.
